East Palo Alto’s Mural Music and Arts Project

On my street is a building that houses the Mural Music and Arts Project, an organization that helps young people in East Palo Alto learn things and stay out of trouble. You can read more about the program here. Last saturday they had a celebration.

This is a detail from their latest mural. Here‘s an earlier post about a dance mentor meeting young people.

This fellow is going to Santa Clara University on a scholarship. Not clear where the girl in the window is going to school.

East Palo Alto has a lot of talented dancers and rappers.

Their events are filled with happiness and positive energy.

This guy’s rap included the lines ” this ain’t the nineties, we ain’t no murder capital”, referring to a dark time in East Palo Alto’s past, when we were the per capita murder capital of the United States. Here‘s a little clip from a different rapper.

I’m happy to be a neighbor of the Mural Music and Arts Project. They are a force for good in our community.

  1. I live right down the street from there. I saw and heard a few of the pieces just by passing by and likes always, I felt the positive vibes & determination for success the youth brings out. I can’t help but smile and applaude them 🙂
