Shrine on Mount Sutro

The Mount Sutro Open Space Reserve is a great place for a hike. Hard to get to, because one has to park far away and hike in.

Lots of excellent views, like this one of Sutro Tower, which oddly is not on Mount Sutro.

On the way to the summit, we found this natural alcove that has been turned into a shrine. Probably a shrine to the Hindu god Ganesha, indicated by the elephant carving. Ganesha is the god of new beginnings, the remover of obstacles.

People leave gifts for Ganesha: pennies, guitar picks, charred remains of a dollar bill, a three rupee note, all kinds of stuff.

Thank you, Ganesha.
